Recent Shipping Container Modification Projects

At RFB Containers, we work with businesses across Scotland to create custom container solutions that fit their exact needs. Whether it’s adding insulation for year-round use, installing electrics, or reconfiguring the space entirely, our team handles everything at our Bathgate depot. Here are three recent projects that show the range of modifications we can deliver.

Insulated Office Storage Unit – Bathgate

We recently completed a 40ft high cube container for a storage client in Bathgate who needed a secure, weatherproof unit that could be used comfortably throughout the year.

The container was fully lined internally with 9mm plyboards over 50mm Rockwool insulation, giving it proper temperature control and a clean finish inside. We fitted a personnel door for easy access and added two windows with shutters to let in natural light while keeping security tight. The exterior was resprayed in RAL6007 to match the client’s site branding.

This type of setup is popular for businesses that need storage space that doubles as a workspace or office area. If you’re looking for something similar, our modifications service covers everything from insulation and doors to custom paint finishes.

Custom 16ft Workshop Container – Bathgate

Another Bathgate client came to us with a space challenge. They needed a container but only had room for 16ft on their site. We started with a 20ft new (one trip) container and cut it down to the exact size they needed.

Once the container was resized, we lined and insulated it with 9mm plywood and Rockwool insulation to make it suitable for workshop use. We installed a full electrical setup including lights, sockets, and heating so it could be used as a proper working space. To maximise storage, we fitted four-tier heavy duty shelving along both sides.

The result was a compact, fully functional workshop that fit perfectly into their available space. Custom sizing is just one of the options available through our modifications service.

Storage Container – Glasgow

Childcare company in Glasgow needed a storage solution that could keep two types of equipment separate but under one roof. They wanted one section for toys and garden furniture, and another for their lawnmower and garden tools.

We used a 20ft new (one trip) tunnel container with cargo doors at both ends, which gave them access from either side. A metal partition was fitted inside to create a 60/40 split, dividing the space exactly how they needed it. We also applied Grafo Therm anti-condensation coating to the internal roof to prevent moisture build up and keep their stored items in good condition.

This project shows how flexible container modifications can be. Even something as straightforward as adding a partition can completely change how a container works for your business.
