20ft Snack Van Conversion for Isle of Uist Catering Business
Our customer runs a local mobile food service and was looking to upgrade from a traditional snack van setup to something more robust, spacious, and fit-for-purpose for long-term use.
What problem was the client facing?
The Challenge
Our client needed to replace an aging mobile snack van with a more durable, permanent solution that could accommodate a full commercial kitchen setup.
Key requirements included:
- A large prep area
- Space for an industrial fridge, freezer, cooker, and extraction system
- A serving hatch for walk-up customers
- A window and a secure personnel door
The location on the Isle of Uist also posed a logistical challenge, as the finished unit would need to be transported by ferry to the remote site.

The Solution
RFB Containers converted a 20ft shipping container into a fully customised catering unit.
The conversion included:
- Structural modifications to house all the kitchen equipment
- Installation of a serving hatch, window, and personnel access door
- Tailored layout for efficient food prep and service flow
- Reinforcements to accommodate heavy-duty appliances
The completed unit was securely delivered via ferry to the Isle of Uist, ensuring it arrived ready for immediate use.
